It’s always energizing to be on the floor at Workday Rising — never more so than this year, with more than 3,500 people in attendance, including over 80 Deloitte practitioners from our member firms around the world — truly showing our global reach and activity around Workday. I continue to see and experience fantastic growth and demand for this event.

There were significant new Workday features and functionality announced that will be rolling out shortly. A few of the noteworthy introductions:

  • A new simplified user experience
  • Significant mobile enhancements
  • New HR and Financial functionality, including a preview of upcoming Recruiting functionality
  • Significant investment in Workday Student for higher education — Workday’s first industry-specific application. It will start rolling out in 2014 and is a model for future industry-specific applications.
  • Big Data Analytics — In particular, Deloitte had the privilege of introducing our new Workday Big Data offering, which customers could (and did!) download from Workday’s solution catalog. These Manager Effectiveness Dashboards analyze various dimensions of manager effectiveness and benchmark them against key metrics provided by Bersin by Deloitte.
  • The transition from three updates each year to only two per year beginning in 2014

As a leader in the Workday community, Deloitte had a strong presence at the event, and so did our clients. In addition to presentations by my colleagues at Deloitte Consulting LLP’s, Josh Bersin on Big Data in HR, Greg Viola on Application Management Services (AMS), and a panel discussion on Shared Services with Walt Sokoll, we were pleased to hear so many of our clients showcase their Workday successes in the cloud. And we were especially proud that one of our clients received Workday’s 2013 Customer Visionary award. It’s fantastic to see such hard work be recognized by Workday.

There is a very strong Deloitte-connected network within the Workday community. Our clients, many of the largest Workday clients, share similar challenges and experiences that they can only really “debrief” about with other big, global companies of similar size and global footprints. We spent time at our evening event at Rising bringing our clients together, connecting them with one another to enable collaboration and help them make personal connections with peers at other organizations. It was a wonderful opportunity for Deloitte to bring these companies together with Workday and Deloitte leaders in a comfortable, open-dialog setting.

On an even broader scale, the Deloitte and Workday alliance continues to support the shift toward cloud-based HR and financials. I continue to see that the cloud is not just changing things —it’s actually allowing companies to do thing they could never do before. With so many new Workday features and capabilities rolling out, I know this year will be a busy one for Deloitte and our Workday clients.
